What is HERO?
HERO is an oral, liquid form of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is the main constituent of joint fluid. HERO maintains healthy joints through daily oral use by improving the quality of the synovial fluid that cushions and lubricates the joint capsule.
Why should I use HERO?
Synovial fluid deteriorates with age and exercise. In fact, the more work the joint has, the faster joint fluid degenerates and the more likely bone-on-bone inflammation will occur. HERO replenishes and restores joint fluid, without the stress, pain and expense of regularly scheduled joint injections. HERO also enhances joint health when you do choose to use injectables.
Is HERO Like Cosequin®?
No. Cosequin is mainly made up of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate. Cosequin works on the cartilage while HERO is beneficial to the joint fluid. It is important to know that cartilage heals best when the joint fluid that surrounds it is healthy and viscous. HERO provides the best possible joint fluid environment for healthy cartilage.
What is HERO made from?
Unlike other forms of liquid HA made from animal sources (e.g., rooster combs), HERO is extracted from a synthetic source. This method keeps HERO free from protein contamination that can cause other HA products to break down and lose their effectiveness.
When should I start giving HERO to my horse?
While many people begin treating their horses with HERO because they are having mobility challenges or joint pain, HERO is an excellent preventative supplement. Top thoroughbred athletes benefit today from receiving HERO on a daily basis from the time they are weanlings, throughout their careers.
How much and how often should I give HERO to my horse?
Because any form of HA that is introduced to the body from an external source only remains in the body for 36 hours, it is important to give your horse HERO every day. We recommend that you start with a “loading” dose for one week of 30 ml or one ounce. Then you can drop it to the “maintenance” dose of 15 ml or one-half (1/2) ounce. a measured dose directly into your horse’s mouth.
Does HERO contain glucosamine and chondroitin?
The only active ingredient in HERO is HA. Glucosamine and chondroitin target cartilage, not joint fluid.
How long before I will see results with HERO?
There is no exact time frame. Most horses observed have improved noticeably within seven to 14 days. Results vary depending on severity of the joint health problems and the dose of HERO.
Can HERO go bad?
Yes. As with most liquid nutritional supplements, extreme hot or cold temperatures can cause breakdown, rendering the product ineffective. We recommend storing HALO Optimized HA in a temperature range between 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. You must not freeze or overheat HERO!
